In this study the history of Methodist and Roman Catholic women's organisations in Zimbabwe are examined in the light of the socio-economic and political developments of Mbare township. The organisations are compared in terms of origin, developments of Mbare township. The organisations are compared in terms of origin, development, structure, rules and uniform, Especially in the early colonial setting, these organisations defined and defended a new Christian morality in an enviroment which was widely considered to be immoral. It examines how after 1945 these women's organisations took on social functions, like organising funerals and looking after the sick. The study also traces the development of an ecumenical movement of mainstream women's church organisations and discusses how, during the same period, urban Christian women is completed by an analysis of these women's church organisations in the post-colonial setting.
