Sermons on Galatians
Calvin's 43 sermons on Galatians, preached in French between 14 November 
1557 and 8 May 1558, were taken down in shorthand by Denis Raguenier, the
professional scribe hired for this purpose by the French emigrants in Geneva.
They were later published and sold, but - in a decision which typified the
remarkable practical Christianity which Genevan believers had learned from
Calvin's preaching- the proceeds were used to provide relief for poor
French-speaking refugees.
First translated into English in 1574 by the
indefatigable Arthur Golding, the sermons are here translated afresh from the
original French.Kathy Childress, the translator from the original French
of this book says, 'Calvin exposes human nature with profound insight [...] he
brings this world into sharp focus and enables us to see its frivolity.
However, he does not leave us to wallow in despair, but points us to the
Saviour [...]. No sinner, having read these sermons, could mistake the
remedy...The Lord Jesus Christ is the focal point [...]. There is judgement
here, enough to make the sinner quake with fear, but then there is also mercy
to warm the heart and lift the fainting spirit.'Recommended € 36,90
