Jip and Janneke

For more than fifty years, Jip and Janneke have been the Netherlands’ favourite and most famous preschoolers. They are best friends who play together, argue, get into mischief and eat too many sweets. Even modern children have no trouble identifying with these timeless adventures. Annie M.G. Schmidt wrote the stories with her characteristic sense of humour. Fiep Westendorp provided the iconic, black-and-white illustrations. Schmidt and Westendorp are the uncrowned queens of Dutch children’s literature.
